Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One-three years' experience working as a placement specialist and/or in case management services is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Requires mobility throughout the day.
Must be able to drive a car or ride in a car to travel for training.
Vision and hearing as are sufficient to carry out tasks and engage in conversation are necessary.
Other Requirements:
Must communicate effectively with students, co-workers and members of the public in writing, in person, using computer applications and on the telephone.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must have a strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program, to reorient their lives, nurture their leadership skills and enable them to make a difference in their community.
General Description:
The CDSA YouthBuild Placement Specialist works under the direct supervision of the CDSA YouthBuild Program Coordinator and is responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships in the public and private sectors to provide career opportunities that are aligned with YouthBuild students' interest and goals.
Opportunities should link/connect program and employer and pathways from pre-apprenticeship to registered apprenticeship whenever possible.
This includes working with employers, unions and other workforce development agencies.
When possible, target employers who fall within our best bet jobs model and offer positions that are suited for our participants.
TASKS Identify career pathways in in-demand sectors Establish and maintain relationships with educational and vocational training centers.
Assist participants with enrollment process for education and training Provide employment assistance, training and coaching for all participants Assess potential participants for level of ability and readiness for work Develop support systems to meet participant needsby identifying and coordinating available services needed to maintain independent living, self-sufficiency and family stabilization Provide job readiness skills training in areas of resume preparation, interviewing and job search techniques & provide career counseling and job coaching; coordinate job skills training with participant employment plans Market the program to potential employers.
Arrange interviews with employers and work with participants on job retention issues Coordinate with Local and private employment resources to assure participant access Develop inter-agency relationships to enhance the referral process Accept other tasks as assigned by the program coordinator.
